OVERVIEW OF SUECA
Sueca is widely played throughout Portugal. It is an awesome trick game for social environments and four players. It is a face-paced game, taking up very little time. The goal of the game is to win tricks with high value cards!
SETUP
To begin the game, remove the eights, nines, and tens from a standard deck. Divide the four players into teams with two players on each. Teammates should be positioned in a way that they sit across the table from one another.
A dealer and a scorekeeper are chosen. The dealer will allow the player to their right to shuffle the cards and the deal will begin. The dealer will deal ten cards to each player, all ten cards at one time.
The bottom card dealt will determine the trump suit for the round. The game is ready to begin!
GAMEPLAY
The player on the dealer’s right will lead the first trick. The next player must attempt to play a card of the same suit if possible. The highest ranking trump card wins the trick. The cards are ranked in descending order from ace, seven, King, Jack, Queen, six, five, four, three, and then two.
Play continues until all the cards have been played. If a player is unable to play a card of the suit, then any card may be played. When the round comes to an end, the players will combine points with their teammates. Teams that score over sixty points wins one game point.
If a team accrues more than ninety-one points during a round, they earn two game points. If a team is able to win every trick, they win the game!
