Ready to have fun with some hungry piggies? Here is how to play Piggy Piggy!
SETUP FOR PIGGY PIGGY
Before you can start stealing the piggies, you’ve got to set up the game. Luckily, just like the game itself, the setup is very simple and fast!
WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
In the box, you’ll find 108 cards, 5 pig figures, and an instruction sheet.
There are six different types of cards in the Piggy Piggy deck: 5 food cards (taco, donut, ice cream, french fries, and sushi) in 5 different colors (yellow, blue, pink, red, and black, respectively) and goat cards.
DEALING
Now that you know what kind of cards are in the deck, it’s time to shuffle all the cards. Then, deal 5 cards face down to each player. All players may look at their own cards but must keep them hidden away from the other players.
Place all pig figures in the middle to start.
HOW TO PLAY PIGGY PIGGY
All set up? It’s now time to play Piggy Piggy! The youngest player starts the game.
There are four steps to a turn:
- Play cards
- Take or steal pigs
- Draw cards
- Score points
STEP ONE: PLAY CARDS
On your turn, pick a color of food card to play. When you choose a color, put ALL the cards you have in that color down onto the table face-up. How much food you have to steal a pig depends on the amount of food shown at the top of each card, which can range from 1 to 3. The more food, the better!
If you already have a stack of cards in a particular color face-up in front of you from a previous round, add to the growing stack!
THE GOAT CARD
If you want, you can also play a goat card on your turn. For each goat card you play on your turn, you can take and discard one food card of your choice from another player. While you do not get to keep the other player’s card, you can effectively handicap your competition one by one.
If you use multiple goat cards in a single turn, you can use the goat cards on different types of food and on different players, so use them strategically!
STEP TWO: TAKE OR STEAL PIGS
If you have the biggest stack of food in a particular color, you get to take or steal the pig of that color! If there is a tie, keep the pig in the middle until someone clearly has more of that food than all other players.
Example play: You have 7 tacos, player two has 3 tacos, and player three has 5 tacos. Since you have the most tacos, you take the yellow pig!
STEALING A PIG FROM ANOTHER PLAYER
As you play, you are more likely to steal a pig than to take a pig from the middle of the table. When you steal a pig from another player, the player whose pig is stolen must discard their food cards of that color from the table. Yikes!
Example play with goat card: During step one, you use a goat card to steal and discard enough food from another player that you now have the biggest stack of said food. In this case, you will steal that color pig from the other player! That other player must now discard all their face-up cards of that color from the table.
STEP THREE: DRAW CARDS
After playing cards and taking/stealing pigs, draw cards from the draw pile so that you have 5 cards in your hand again.
STEP FOUR: SCORE POINTS
Do you have any pig figures? If you don’t, your turn is over. If you do, it’s time to score some points!
Take a look at the cards you just drew in step three. If those cards are the same color as any of the pigs you have, score a point for each card! Show each of these cards to the other players and then place them face down in front of you so that you can keep track of how many points you have. Don’t worry; these face-down point cards cannot be stolen and discarded by goats!
At this point, if you have scored points, you will end up with fewer than 5 cards in your hand. There’s no need to pick up more cards. You’ll simply play with fewer cards in the next round.
If you happen to have zero cards at this point, you still do not draw, and your turn ends. On your next turn, immediately skip over to step three, as you won’t be able to play cards or steal pigs with no cards in your hand.
END OF GAME
The first player to win 8 points wins Piggy Piggy!
