So, you’re thinking about hosting a 4th of July party. Whether you’re having an adults-only party or you want to entertain the adults while the kids have their own fun, here are some 4th of July drinking games you’ve got to play this summer. Ranging from classic drinking games with a patriotic twist to more unique drinking games you probably have never thought of, here are the best and most hilarious 4th of July drinking games that’ll get everyone sufficiently tipsy and having fun in no time!
1. PATRIOTIC FLIP CUP
One of our favorite drinking games with cups, Flip Cup may not be 4th-of-July-esque at first glance, but you can easily put a patriotic twist on the game by splitting the two teams into Team Stars and Team Stripes. The two teams face each other, each player with a half-filled plastic cup in front of them. When the whistle blows, the first player of each team must drink the contents of their cup, then flip the cup. When the cup is successfully flipped, the next player on the team must do the same. Keep going! And keep going fast! The team to finish first wins.
2. UNCLE SAM SAYS
You’re likely already familiar with the game Simon Says. But, of course, we’re going to up the ante a little bit and make the game more patriotic by changing it to “Uncle Sam.” “Uncle Sam” stands up in front of everyone else and gives commands. All commands must be preceded by the phrase: “Uncle Sam says.” If Uncle Sam simply gives a command and someone accidentally follows it, they must drink as punishment!
3. 4TH OF JULY MOVIE DRINKING GAME
We’re huge fans of movie drinking games, so why not play one for the 4th of July? Movie drinking games consist of setting up a bunch of rules before playing the movie, and then drinking anytime something on that list of rules happens. For example, if you decide to watch Top Gun, you could have the following rules:
- Drink anytime someone high fives
- Drink anytime there’s bromance on the screen
- Drink when someone puts on or takes off their aviators
- Drink anytime a plane takes off
- Drink anytime someone says “Top gun”
- Take a shot when Maverick says “I feel the need, the need for speed”
Other fun movies to watch and turn into a drinking game on the 4th of July include Independence Day, American Pie, Air Force One, Apollo 13, Purple Hearts, and Forrest Gump.
4. 4TH OF JULY TRIVIA
If you’re a big fan of trivia, you’re going to want to brush up on your American history for this one! To play this 4th of July trivia game, first, you’ll need to prepare a list of questions and answers. Then, give everyone a mini whiteboard or sheets of paper for them to write their answers on. Read out the first question, and all players must write down their answer on their board or paper. Reveal all answers. All players who answer incorrectly must take a drink!
5. PATRIOTIC PLAYLIST
Before the 4th of July party, prepare a playlist with some patriotic songs, such as:
- Born in the USA – Bruce Springsteen
- Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus
- American Girl – Tom Petty
- Kids in America – Kim Wilde
- All-American Girl – Carrie Underwood
Then, play the playlist in the background and drink anytime you hear “USA” or “America.”
6. 4TH OF JULY ADULT SCAVENGER HUNT
We love a good old scavenger hunt whenever the weather’s nice outside. For this 4th of July game, prepare some red, white, and blue items and hide them around a designated playing area. Attached to each of these items should be a mini drink dare of some sort! Whoever finds an item must follow the dare! Examples of dares include:
- Take a sip
- Give a sip to another player
- Take a shot
- Finish your drink
- All girls drink
- All boys drink
7. 50 STATES
Do you think you know your 50 states? For this one, you’ll ideally need a moderator to keep track of all of the states that are being said. This 4th of July drinking game is super easy. Players simply take turns naming one state at a time. If you hesitate for too long or repeat one that’s already been said, you have to drink and you’re out. The last player standing is the winner and can give out some shots!
8. DIZZY GEORGE
Be prepared to laugh out loud with this one! One of our favorite outdoor drinking games of all time is Dizzy Bat, but let’s rename this game Dizzy George for dear old Washington for the 4th of July. To play this game, you’ll need a baseball bat. One player from one team must finish their drink and spin around the bat 10 times. Then, a player from the other team throws the ball. The dizzy player must try to hit it with the bat! If they successfully hit, that’s 1 point.
9. NATIONAL ANTHEM KEG STANDS
Want to sing the national anthem and drink beer at the same time? Here’s a challenge for you! For this game, as you might expect, you’ll need a keg stand. Take turns chugging away at it as everyone else sings the national anthem! Whoever can get to the furthest part of the song while chugging the beer wins.
10. FIREWORK DRINKING GAME
This is a 4th of July drinking game that is sure to get out of hand pretty quickly, but the premise is incredibly simple. Basically, take a drink anytime you see a firework. We’re not going to lie, this is one of those drinking games you may need to stop at some point during the night, or it’ll get out of hand pretty fast!

11. 4TH OF JULY BEER PONG
One of the most classic drinking games of all time is Beer Pong, and it’s perfect for playing in the summer heat, so you can’t miss playing this at your 4th of July party! But, to make this game slightly more patriotic, why not use red, blue, and white plastic cups instead of just a single color? Then, you follow your standard beer pong rules!
12. DRINK IF… 4TH OF JULY EDITION
Drink if… is a fun drinking game to play if you haven’t had too much time to prep a game more complicated, as this is one you can easily play on the spot with zero prep. The rules are simple: say a phrase starting with “Drink if…” and if anyone has done it, they must drink. Examples of phrases you could incorporate that bring in that patriotic spirit include:
- Drink if you are wearing red, white, or blue
- Drink if you can name all 50 states
- Drink if you are proud to be American
13. 4TH OF JULY CHARADES
Charades is yet another classic game that is perfect for playing at any gathering, including a 4th of July party for adults. But to turn this into a drinking game perfect for this American holiday, try an American history version of charades. For every wrong answer, you must take a drink!
14. PATRIOTIC BINGO
Another classic family game you can turn into a drinking game for the 4th of July is bingo. However, to put that American twist into it, the bingo cards should have American emojis, celebrities, words, or presidents. Then, play bingo as normal: calling out a random word that people will need to cross out from their bingo card. But, of course, since this is a drinking game, you also need to drink every time you cross something out! The first player to get a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line crossed out wins and gives out 5 shots.
15. PAUL REVERE RELAY
To round off our list of the best 4th of July drinking games is one game that is sure to get everyone laughing out loud in no time. In this relay race, two teams race against each other. The first player of each team should shotgun a beer and then ride a tricycle to the designated turnaround point. They must yell, “The British are coming!” while they’re at it. The next player of the team must do the same when the previous player returns and tags the next player. Keep going until one team wins the relay race!
