OVERVIEW OF WIT AND REASON
Wit and Reason is the perfect game for those who have the perfect amount of information. Players must constantly know what cards their opponent has available, making it easy to choose which cards to play into the center. The goal of the game is to play the perfect number of cards, making the sum thirty-one.
SETUP
To begin setup, give one player all the black cards and the other player all the red cards. To determine who is the first player to make a move, each player will draw a random card, before the cards are given to each player. The player who draws the highest scoring card, gets to make the first move!
GAMEPLAY
Gameplay is made up of the players alternately placing one card from their hand to the center. Each card has a counting value, with ace counting for one, the numerical cards counting for the value marked on them, and the face cards are worth ten points.
Each player, during their turn, will announce the total of the play pile. Players may never play cards that causes the play pile to equal more than thirty-one points. If there is no card available, the player must pass.
Gameplay continues in this manner until a player plays a card to the center that causes the total to equal exactly thirty-one points. This player is declared the winner!
END OF GAME
The game comes to an end when a player plays a card that leads to the pile equaling thirty-one points. This player is the winner! If neither player has a card to play that will not push the total over thirty-one points, then the game comes to a draw.
