CONNECT FOUR

OBJECT OF CONNECT FOUR: The object of Connect Four is to be the first person to get 4 of their colored chips in a row on the board. 

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 players.  

MATERIALS: A rulebook, the grid board, 2 connecter stands, 21 black chips, and 21 red chips.

OVERVIEW OF CONNECT FOUR

Connect Four is a strategy board game for 2 players. The goal of the game is to be the first player to get 4 of their colored chips in a row, while also preventing their opponent from completing this as well. 

SETUP 

The grid board must be connected to the two end connectors so that the board stands vertically. Make sure to close the sliding bar at the bottom of the board so that the chips remain in the grid once placed inside. 

The board is then placed centrally to both players. Each player may pick one of the two colors to represent them in the game. 

The player will then take all their colored chips and place them near themselves for easy play. The game can now begin. 

GAMEPLAY

The game can start with either player. It can be chosen randomly, or a player may just wish to go first. If playing multiple games, however, you should alternate which player goes first so there is no advantage to one player versus another. Players will alternate turns once the first player has gone. 

On a player’s turn, they will take one of their chips and slide it into one of the columns. It will slide down until it reaches another chip or the bottom of the board. The place where your piece falls will be where it remains for the game. This means a player must take in the board before placing their piece and understand that it takes patience and help from other chips to reach a win sometimes. Also, take care not to set up your opponent or set yourself up so that an opponent may block your win.

The way to win is to get 4 of your chips in a straight line. This may happen vertically, diagonally, or horizontally. The chips however must all be in a straight line with no gaps, or opponent’s chips in between them. 

END OF GAME

The game ends when a player gets 4 chips in a straight line and this player is the winner of the game. If wanting to start a new game the lever at the bottom can be released so that all the chips will slide out of the board. After players separate the chips by color and replace the lever, a new game can be started.
