SETUP FOR UNO SHOW ‘EM NO MERCY
The setup for this card game is very simple. All you need are some friends, a flat surface, and an Uno Show ‘Em No Mercy deck. The game is very easy to learn. However, it is just like it sounds: you have to show no mercy to your opponents. You might be able to use some Uno strategy to help you destroy the competition.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
The UNO Show ‘Em No Mercy deck comes with 168 cards. That’s 56 more cards than a standard Uno deck. The cards one through nine have no special meaning. You play them like normal, matching the number or color besides the 0’s and 7’s.
CARD MEANINGS
The cards for Uno SENM have a different action than other Uno decks. Let’s go over the meaning of the cards. In the “Special Rules” section, we will show you how you can get out of some of these cards.
0’S PASS
If someone plays a 0, then everyone has to pass their cards in the direction the game is going. So if the current direction of the gameplay is clockwise, everyone passes their hand to the player on their right.
7’S SWAP
When you play a 7, then you get to swap hands with any player of your choice. Once you swap hands, then the play continues to the next player after you.
DISCARD ALL
Playing the discard all card will let you discard all the cards in your hand that match the color of the card. You take all your cards and put them under the discard all card and place them all on the discard pile.
SKIP
The skip card is the same as the classic Uno. The next player skips their turn.
REVERSE
This is another card that stays the same in this version. The gameplay changes direction.
DRAW 2
When you play the draw 2 card, the next player in order draws two cards and skips their turn.
DRAW 4
This is the same as above. If you plate this, then the next player skips their turn and draws four cards!
SKIP EVERYONE
Skip everyone is pretty cool; it skips everyone’s turn, and you get to play again. You can then play another card of the same color or even another skip-everyone card if you have it.
WILD COLOR ROULETTE
Wild color roulette is one of those cards that really shows no mercy. When you play it, the next player must choose a color and then draw cards until they draw a card of that color. They must add all the drawn cards to their hand. You can play this on any card since it is wild.
WILD REVERSE DRAW 4
The wild reverse draw 4 has a few moving parts. First, the direction of play changes. The next player in the new order must draw four cards and skip their turn, and you get to choose the new color for the pile. Since it is wild, you can play this on any card.
WILD DRAW 6
The wild draw six can also be played on any card, and it forces the next player to draw six cards and skip their turn. You also get to choose the new color of the pile.
WILD DRAW 10
Just like the card above, this forces the next player to draw ten cards, and then you choose the new pile color.
DEALING
Alright, now that we’ve gone over the new cards, let’s get the game started by picking a dealer. You can do this any way you want. We normally just play rock paper scissors until there is a clear winner.
Now, the dealer deals seven cards to each player face down. Place the rest of the deck face down in the center as the draw pile. Flip one card face up to start the discard pile.
HOW TO PLAY UNO SHOW ‘EM NO MERCY
To start the game, you need to choose a card to play on top of the flipped-up discard card. In order to play a card, the card in your hand needs to be:
- The same color
- The same number
- The same symbol
If one of the cards in your hand matches those attributes, then you can play it. Even if you have more than one card that you can play, you may only play one card on your turn. Action cards will activate a certain action, which you can see above in the “Card Meaning” section.
The game starts in a clockwise direction. So, once you play your card, then it’s the player on your left’s turn.
DRAWING
Let’s say that on your turn, you don’t have a card that you can use to play. In that case, you take a card from the draw pile until you draw a card you can legally play. All the cards you draw are added to your hand. In Regular Uno, you only need to draw one card, but this is No Mercy!
UNO
The game will continue like this until someone has one card left. When you have one card left, you must yell “UNO” to let all the other players know you are close to winning.
If you forget to yell “UNO” and someone else catches you before the next player’s turn, they can call uno. This forces you to draw two cards and add them to your hand.
SPECIAL RULES
Since this is an Uno Variation, there are a couple of special rules to remember.
STACKING
The first special rule is the staking rule. This comes in handy when you need to get out of a penalt, such as draw 2.
This rule allows players to stack draw cards regardless of color. It counts as their turn and stacks onto the next player. The next player now has to either draw the total number that the stacked cards add up to or play another draw card. This keeps going until someone can’t play a draw card.
For example, let’s say someone played a draw 4 on you. You can play a draw 2, and the penalty moves on to the next player. The next player then plays another draw 4, so gameplay continues. Finally, if the next player cannot play another draw card, they must draw 10 cards (4 + 2 + 4 = 10).
MERCY
The mercy rule is when a player has 25 or more cards in their hand; they are eliminated from the game. This rule is in place to help others win, but also to avoid the player suffering for too long and prolonging the game.
END OF GAME
The winner of the game is the player who plays their last card or who eliminates all other players.
UNO SHOW EM NO MERCY VS NORMAL UNO
As we mentioned, Uno has evolved to include many different variations. Uno SHow ‘Em No Mercy is one of those. Let’s see what the differences are between these two games.
NUMBER OF CARDS
One of the biggest differences is in the number of cards. The classic Uno game comes with 112 cards. The Uno Show ‘Em No Mercy, on the other hand, comes with 168 cards, 56 more than normal.
ACTION CARDS
Since there are more cards in the Uno SENM deck, the cards can’t be the same. There are many more action cards in this game than in the original version. Some of the new action cards include Discard All, Wild Reverse Draw Four, and Wild Color Roulette.
The only other card that is different in newer Uno decks is the wild shuffle hands card. This makes you take every player’s cards, shuffle them all, and then deal them out as evenly as possible. This can really mess up anyone who has Uno.
SPECIAL RULES
Another key difference between this version and Uno classic is the special rules. The 0 cards and the 7 cards each have their own actions. There is also the stacking rule, which people will either love or hate. Finally, the best rule of all is the Mercy rule. In Uno Classic, you keep playing no matter how many cards you have in your hand. This can be really annoying for some players.
If you’re looking for more fun Uno variations, I recommend Uno All Wilds or Uno Ultimate Marvel.
