OBJECTIVE OF GRAB THE MIC: Race to grab the microphone and score points by correctly singing a real lyric that includes the word shown on the card.

Grab The Mic is a fast-paced karaoke party game for people who love music… even if they can’t sing. Actually, this game is even more hilarious if you can’t carry a tune! It’s chaotic in the best way possible, and it’s easy to see why this game is TikTok-famous! So, without further ado, here’s how to play Grab the Mic.

SETUP FOR GRAB THE MIC
Shuffle the Word Cards and place them face down in the middle of the table. Put the foam microphone within reach of everyone. We’re serious here! Make it equally reachable unless you want an argument in round one!
Give each player a token and place all tokens on the starting space on the game board.
There are two sides of the game board, one of which has additional rules you have to follow. While the first side of the game board is simple (just move up your token every time you score a point), the second side also has spaces that state what kind of song you have to sing if your token is on that space, such as solo artists only or band only.
Once you pick a side to play and everyone has placed their player token at the start of the game board, you’re ready to play!
HOW TO PLAY GRAB THE MIC
Here are the Grab the Mic rules.
STARTING A ROUND
Choose one player to flip the first Word Card. That player reveals the card in a way that everyone can see the word.
GRABBING THE MIC
Once the word is revealed, everyone races to think of a real song lyric that includes that exact word.
The first player to think of one grabs the microphone.
SINGING YOUR LYRIC
If you grabbed the mic, you must sing the lyric out loud. It has to:
- Be a real lyric from a real song
- Include the word from the card (this can be a variation of the word, such as WINNER even though the card says WIN”
CONFIRMING THE ANSWER
After you sing, the group decides if the lyric counts. If most players agree it’s a real lyric and the word was used correctly, you’re all good.
SCORING
If your lyric is approved, move your player token up one space on the game board. That equals 1 point. Then discard the Word Card and start a new round with a fresh card.
IF YOUR LYRIC DOESN’T COUNT
If the group rejects your lyric (wrong word, made-up lyric, or you can’t actually deliver it), you have to take the mute token as punishment. This means you cannot participate in the next round. If they break the rules and speak or sing during their mute time, they must go back one space on the game board.
Keep the same card in play and let everyone keep racing to claim it before you start a new round.
SKIPPING THE WORD CARD
If no one can think of a lyric, just skip the word card and move on to the next one.
END OF GAME
The game ends when one player reaches the WINNER space on the game board!
