OVERVIEW OF WORD ASSOCIATION

An incredibly fast-paced game, Word Association might seem like an easy game at first glance, but it’s deceptively difficult the faster you play! Word Association is a simple and fun word game, so make sure you brush up on your vocabulary before you start the game to ensure you win.

GAMEPLAY

While Word Association is best played with just two players, you can play this game with as many people as you want. But to ensure it stays fun, make sure the game stays fast-paced.

To play this game, the first player must say a random word. Then, the next player must say a related word associated with the first word. The next player then says another word that is related to the second one. And so on. Continue playing by saying associated words. Word Association is simple enough as that! But just keep two rules in mind:

  1. No hesitating for more than a predetermined number of seconds. Generally, no more than 5 seconds in order to ensure the game is fast-paced. But if you want to make the game even more difficult, make a rule that you cannot hesitate for more than 2 or 3 seconds.
  2. No saying words that have already been said.

Here’s an example of how a game would go:

  • Player 1: Cake
  • Player 2: Bake
  • Player 1: Bakery
  • Player 2: Bread
  • Player 1: Sandwich
  • Player 2: Lunch
  • Player 1: Meal
  • Player 2: Dish

END OF GAME

When a player messes up by repeating a word or hesitates, the round ends, and a point is awarded to the winner. The winner can then start a new round with a new random word.
