INTRODUCTION OF SCORZO

Scorzo is a five suited Rummy card game published by Regal.  In this game, players will complete eleven rounds.  Each round, players are dealt a different hand size.  For round one, players are dealt an eight card hand.  They are dealt seven in the next round.  Six are dealt in round three and so on down to a three card hand.  Then, the deal starts climbing again until an eight card hand is reached.

Each round players are trying to form melds and have as few points as possible.  The player with the lowest score at the end of the final round is the winner.

CONTENTS

Scorzo comes with two 56 card decks, a scoresheet, and instructions.

The two decks are each composed of five suits: Stars, Squares, Triangles, Circles, & Hearts.  Each suit has cards ranked 1 – 10.  There are also twelve wild cards bringing the complete deck to 112 cards.

SETUP

Scorzo is played over a series of 11 rounds.  For the first round, deal out 8 cards to each player.  Place the rest of the deck face down and turn the top card over to begin the discard pile.

DEALS FOR EACH ROUND

Round 1 = 8 cards

Round 2 = 7 cards

Round 3 = 6 cards

Round 4 = 5 cards

Round 5 = 4 cards

Round 6 = 3 cards

Round 7 = 4 cards

Round 8 = 5 cards

Round 9 = 6 cards

Round 10 = 7 cards

Round 11 = 8 cards

THE PLAY

The player seated left of the dealer gets to go first.  They may either take the top card from the draw pile or the face up card.  After the draw, the player chooses which card they no longer want.  That card is placed on top of the discard pile.  Play passes left.

Play like this continues.  If the draw pile ever runs empty, flip over the discard pile to start a new draw pile.

SCORZO

The goal of each round is for a player to fill their hand with melds.  There are two types of melds: sets and runs.  A set is 3 or more cards of the same rank.  A run is 3 or more cards of the same suit in sequential order.

Once a player has a handful of melded cards, they discard and shout out Scorzo!  Each remaining player gets one more turn before the game ends.

WILD CARDS

Wild cards can replace any card in the meld.  More than one Wild card can be in a meld.

SCORING

Each round, players earn points for the cards that are not melded.  Number cards are worth the value of the number on the card, and Wild cards are worth 15 points.

WINNING

The player with the lowest score at the end of the 11th round is the winner.  If there is a tie, one more round is played.  Each player is dealt three cards.  At the end of that round, the player with the least number of points wins.
