OVERVIEW OF LAST ONE
Last One is an eights group card game for 2 to 6 players. The goal of the game is to be the last player remaining.
The game is played over a series of rounds, where the goal is to be the first to empty your hand. Players with cards remaining in hand score points based on the cards held. Once a player reaches the agreed-upon number of points, they are eliminated from the game.
SETUP
The first dealer is chosen at random and passes to the left for each new deal.
The dealer will shuffle the deck and deal each player a hand of 4, 8, or 9 cards, depending on what the players agree on.
The remaining cards are placed face down and the top card is turned face up to start the play pile. As long as the card flipped doesn’t have any special rules (discussed below) the game starts with the player left of the dealer. The flipped card is considered to be played by the dealer is necessary to resolve the card’s effect.
Card Ranking and Value
Card ranking is not important to this game, players will be looking at cards rank or suit when determining if they can play.
Certain cards have value for if they are remaining in your hand after the round has ended. Kings, Queens, Jacks, and 10s are all worth 10 points, aces are worth 15, 8s are worth 25 points, jokers are worth 40, and all remaining cards are worth their face value.
GAMEPLAY
The game starts with the player to the dealers left unless the previous card played changes this. When a player takes their turn, they will play a card from their hand to the play pile or draw a card. if playing to the play pile they must have a card of the same suit or rank as the top card of the play pile.
If a player wishes not to or cannot play a card to the play pile, they must draw the top card of the stock and their turn is ended.
The goal of the game is to play out all the cards from your hand. this ends the round and prevents you from scoring any points. When a player only has one card remaining, he must announce this.
Misplays or if a player doesn’t announce their last card results in that player drawing a card from eh stockpile.
Certain cards have special rules associated with them, so when played effects go into play.
A joker can be played as any card, and a player can announce which card they are using and apply that card’s effects.
Aces change the direction of play to go the opposite of what it is currently.
Jacks skip the next player’s turn.
Eights can always be played and when they are the player names a suit. The next card played must be of that suit.
Fours are attack cards. when played the player starts as the aggressor and the player who would go next is the aggresse. If the aggresse or any other player wishes to play the 5 of the same suit, they may and this makes them the new aggressor and the last aggressor the new aggresse. This may continue until the next card in order cannot be played. When the cycle ends the current aggresse must draw from the deck the number of cards associated with the last card played by the aggressor.
Threes allows a player to play any card on top of their last one and play its effects as well.
Twos make the next player draw a card from the stock and skip their turn.
SCORING
The round ends once a player has emptied their hand. all other players must score the cards in their hand. scores are kept cumulative over several rounds, and a player who reaches or exceeds the set number of points is eliminated.
END OF GAME
The game ends when only one player is remaining. This player is the winner.
