AUDIENCE: All Ages

OVERVIEW OF OMBEN

Omben, also known as Minuman, is a fishing card game for 2 players. The goal of the game is to be the first player to have no cards in hand.

SETUP

A player will shuffle the deck. Then each player will draw a hand of either 4 or 5 cards. Players should decide before the game which hand size they would like to start with. After each player has drawn their hand the remaining deck is placed centrally for drawing and the game can begin.

GAMEPLAY

The first player is decided randomly and turns alternate between players.

On a player’s turn, they may ask another player of their choice if they have a card of a particular rank. If this player does have a card of this rank, they will hand all cards of that rank to the player.

If the player does not have the matching card, they will tell the player to “drink”. This signifies to the asking player that the card they asked for was not in that player’s hand and instead they will draw from the top of the stockpile. The player will draw until they pull a card of the specified rank from the draw pile.

When a player establishes a 4 of a kind in their hand, they will immediately lay it face up in front of them.

The game continues until either a player has emptied their hand, or the draw pile is emptied.

END OF GAME

The game ends one of two ways. Either a player successfully emptied their hand first or the draw pile has the last card drawn from it.

After the game ends the winner is either the player who has no cards in hand or the player with the fewest cards in hand if the draw pile was exhausted.
