OBJECTIVE OF 21: Count from 1 to 21 by following all of the previous rules.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2+ players, but the more, the better
MATERIALS: Alcohol
TYPE OF GAME: Drinking game
AUDIENCE: 21+
OVERVIEW OF 21
When I refer to 21, I am not referring to a variation of the popular casino game blackjack. And no, it also doesn’t refer to the age at which Americans can drink. Though, 21 is not your average drinking game. You’re going to need your wits about you to play this game. Who knew counting to 21 could become so complicated? But with that said, as with most other drinking games, the drunker you are, the funnier it’ll be.
HOW TO PLAY 21
21 is an easy game in theory, and it starts off so simple that anyone could play – even the drunkest of us (hopefully)! In a circle, all players must count from 1 to 21, with each player saying one number at a time. When a player says the number 21, they must take a drink and make a new rule for the game.
At the end of each round, whenever someone gets to the number 21, a new rule is added. So, as the game continues, it will only become more complicated and confusing! At most, there will be as many as 21 rules to remember throughout the duration of the game!
So what types of rules can you add? It’s up to your imagination, but if you’re stuck, here are some examples of rules you can add include:
- Switch 8 and 17
- Skip 2
- Jump at 9
- Bark at 20
- Dance at 13
- Whisper every multiple of 3 to someone
- Switch multiples of 5 with a word that starts with the same letter (for example, say fire instead of five or trees instead of twenty)
- Drink at 3
Each time a player messes up, they must take a shot (or a drink – up to you!), and the round restarts again, with the person that messed up starting from number 1. But make sure to remember the rules!
END OF 21
End the game when the rules become ridiculously too many to follow or when everyone is ready to move on to another game!
