OVERVIEW OF LIBERTY FAN TAN
Liberty Fan Tan is a liberating version of the common card game, Fan Tan. Players will attempt to get rid of all of their cards in their hands. Players must get through the entire suit of cards, and if they are unable to play cards, they must throw chips to the center of the playing area.
SETUP
One player will act as the dealer. They will then shuffle the deck and deal the whole deck, one card at a time, to the players. Not all players will receive the same number of cards, and that is acceptable. The game is then ready to begin!
Card Ranking
Cards are ranked in the following order, from low to high: ace, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, Jack, Queen, and King. The suit of the card does not change the ranking.
GAMEPLAY
The player to the dealer’s left will begin the game by playing any single card from their hand. The player on their left will then play a card that is of the same suit but higher ranking. If they do not have a card of a higher rank, they place one chip into the middle of the playing area.
The next player must do the same thing, with gameplay continuing in this manner until there is a player who has no cards left to play. The goal is to complete an entire suit, and then move on to the next.
END OF GAME
The game comes to an end when a player rids their hand of all of their cards. The loser is the player with the most cards remaining in their hands. Players are placed based on how many cards they still have.
