GAMEPLAY

SCATTERGORIES gameplay

Just as with the board game, before you begin the game, all players must decide on two things:

  1. A category
  2. A letter of the alphabet

If you’re not sure what category to pick, choose something broad for an easier game and something a bit more niche for a harder game. Examples of categories include:

  • Animals
  • Shades of blue
  • Mythological creatures
  • European cities
  • Sea creatures
  • Makeup brands
  • Countries

When all players have agreed on a category and letter, set a timer for one minute. In that one minute, every player must write down everything that belongs in the decided category that starts with the chosen letter. The goal is to write 12 responses. As an example, if the category is “European cities” and the letter is D, a player could write “Denmark,” “Derby,” “Dublin,” “Dusseldorf,” and “Dubrovnik.”

When the one-minute timer is up, all players must read out their 12 responses one-by-one. Each time someone has a duplicate answer as another player, the players with the duplicate responses must cross out their answers. After every player has read out their responses, only the unique answer should be left uncrossed. Each unique answer is worth one point. All players must add up their scores and write them down so as to not forget them.

Play three rounds with three different categories and letters. Repeat the process above and add up all points.

END OF GAME

The player with the most points at the end of the three rounds wins the game!
