At the beginning of the game, each player will assume a secret identity. As the game progresses, each player must attempt to keep their identity hidden from the other players as they collect the necessary items found on their identity card. If a player correctly guesses your identity, then you’re out. On the other hand, if they are wrong, then they are out!

SETUP

To begin setup, place the game board in the center of the playing area, ensuring that there is enough room to place all of the game pieces. Each player will choose a color to represent them throughout the course of the game, placing their game piece on the first space. Shuffle the Spy Identification cards and deal one out to each player.

Players should ensure that nobody else sees their cards. The only time that an identity card is revealed is if they have been correctly guessed. Each player will receive a scorecard, allowing them to keep track of the items that they purchase throughout the course of the game. The scorecards are to be kept where all players can see them.

Everyone will begin the game with a certain amount of money. To determine this amount, multiply the number of players by $10. For example, if there are six players, then each player will begin the game with $60. Any leftover money can be placed beside the board, creating the bank. The game is ready to begin.

HOW TO PLAY SPY ALLEY

To begin gameplay, the players must determine who the first player will be and gameplay will continue clockwise around the group. To do so, the players will roll the die, and the player with the highest roll will begin. At the start of each turn, you will roll the die and move your game piece to a number of spaces equal to the number on the die, following the direction of the arrow on the space.

The players must attempt to collect their necessary items, and they are able to do so by landing on the space of that item and purchasing it. The player must record any items that they purchase on their scorecard throughout the entire game. The goal here is to collect items that you may not need in order to throw off your opponents.

Each time a player passes the first space, they will collect $115. At any point in the game, you can choose to guess the identity of one of your opponents rather than taking a turn. If you guess correctly, then the player that was called out is kicked out of the game. Additionally, when you guess a players identity, you collect all of their items and money. On the other hand, if you do not guess the correct answer, then you are out of the game!

At this point in the game, the player may also collect the other player’s ID card. If they choose to, they may switch IDs in the middle of the game, or they can choose to keep their original identity. If a player lands on the Spy Eliminator Space, then they are able to freely guess the identity of the players that are in Spy Alley. There is no penalty for a free guess during this time.

The game continues in this manner, with the players rotating turns and guessing identities, until only one player remains or a player wins the game.

END OF GAME

The game comes to an end when either one player is remaining or one player lands on their embassy space after collecting all of their items. The first player to do so, or the last player remaining in the game, wins!

As players take on hidden identities and collect their necessary items, they must ensure nobody else finds out. Are you able to fake it until you make it?
