NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 4 Players

MATERIALS: 1 52 Card Deck

TYPE OF GAME: Trick Taking Game

AUDIENCE: Adults

OVERVIEW OF TARNEEB

Tarbeeb is similar to many other trick taking games. The goal is for a team to accrue 31 points faster than the other team. Teams will bid against one another in order to win tricks and earn points. Once a team earns 31 points, the game comes to an end and they are declared the winner!

SETUP

To begin setup, a dealer must be chosen, this is done randomly. The dealer will shuffle the cards and deal 13 cards to each player one at a time. Players will then split up into two person teams. The game is ready to begin!

GAMEPLAY

Bidding will begin first with the player to the right of the dealer and continues counterclockwise around the group. The lowest bid that can be made is seven and the highest is thirteen. Each bid represents the number of tricks that the team thinks they will take.

Bids must be higher than the last, but players may choose to pass when it comes their turn. Bidding continues until all players pass. The winner of the bidding will lead the first trick.

Players must attempt to follow suit if they are able, and if not, they can play any card of their choosing. Tricks are won by the highest trump, or by the highest scoring card of the leading suit if no trumps are present.

Teams try and take as many tricks as they can. If they bid less than thirteen and succeed, then they score the same number of points as tricks won and the other team earns zero points. If the bidding team does not reach their bid, they lose the same number of points as their bid, and the other team earns the points of the tricks they won.

If a team wins all the tricks, they earn sixteen points. If they bid for all thirteen and win all thirteen, then they score twenty-six points. Hands are continuously played until a team wins 31 points in total. They win the game!

END OF GAME

The game comes to an end when a team has earned 31 points. The first team to do this wins the game!
