TYPE OF GAME: Pattern Recognition Game
AUDIENCE: Ages 7 and Up
OVERVIEW OF AZTACK
Throughout Aztack, the players will attempt to build the tallest temples. The goal is to win the favor of the high priest, so the best temple will win! The players will stack stones that match one another, looking for chances to block their opponent’s next move. Strategic moves are always the safest in this game!
SETUP
To begin setup, place all of the stones in the middle of the playing area, face down. All of them should be shuffled around, mixing them up. Next, the base of the pyramid is created. Twelve of the stones are chosen and placed in two rows of six. Each of the colors should appear on a minimum of two stones. Stones may be traded out in order to make this occur.
Each player will then draw twelve stones, placing them face up beside them. The players will choose who will be the first player to place their stone. The game is then ready to begin.
GAMEPLAY
Throughout the game, the players will take turns placing a single stone during their turn. Players are able to place stones if they match in color or if they have a matching glyph. Players must follow the rules of placement in order to place their stones.
In order to place a new stone, it should be placed across two stones. This stone will bridge the stones, covering the glyphs that are found underneath it. The stone must match both colors or both glyphs. The orientation of the glyphs is not important. Stones are not allowed to tip, and they must lay flat.
Players must pass on their turn if they are unable to place one of their stones. The game continues in this manner until one player has placed all of their stones.
END OF GAME
The game comes to an end when a player gets rid of all of their stones. The first player to use all of their stones, wins the game. In some cases, the players are unable to make any other moves, then the player with the least number of stones, wins the game!
