SETUP FOR DRINK-A-PALOOZA
Before we jump straight into the Drink-A-Palooza rules, let’s set up the game for smooth gameplay.
First, you’ll place the drink cup on top of the coaster, which goes on the bottle spinner, and finally onto the center of the game board. Pour a little bit of a drink into the center cup to get the game started.
Put all the cards face down and have each player choose an empty six-pack game piece. Empty, as in, there should be no mini beer bottles in the six-packs to begin with. You’ll earn these bottles as you play.
Note: There are only 6 game pieces, so if you are playing with more people, divide all the players into teams of two before you begin.
Finally, spin the bottle! Whoever the bottle lands on starts the game.
SIPS OR SECONDS
Before we dive into the Drink-A-Palooza rules, it’s important to determine whether you’ll play for sips or seconds. Sips means you’ll give out a number of sips, whereas seconds means you have to drink for a specific number of seconds.
HOW TO PLAY DRINK-A-PALOOZA: DRINK-A-PALOOZA RULES

Now that your Drink-A-Palooza game is set up, it’s time to play! The first player starts by rolling the die and moving the appropriate number of spaces on the board. The space the player lands on determines what happens next. They might play a mini-game, in which case, the winner of that activity wins a mini beer bottle to add to their six-pack.
Play moves clockwise.
There are many different spaces you can land on as you play. But we’ll start off with covering the rules for the basic spaces on the Drink-A-Palooza board before covering the mini-games within the game, which can be more complicated.
MAKE A RULE
The Make a Rule, or Start, space is different from the rest of the game board in that a player must make a rule anytime they land on OR pass this space. In other words, players don’t necessarily need to land on it.
As you might be able to guess, the Make a Rule space on the game board requires the player to make a new rule for the game.
Each rule remains a part of the game until the game is over. However, a player may cancel a previously made rule as a part of their new rule.
WATERFALL
If you land on Waterfall, everyone must start drinking their alcoholic drink. Then, the player who landed on that space may stop at any point they want. Once they stop, the player on their left can stop whenever they want, and so on. Good luck to the last player!
DRUNK TANK
If you land on the Go to the Drunk Tank space on the game board, you have to move your game piece to the Drunk Tank space! To get out of the Drunk Tank, you must roll a 1 on the die. You get 3 rolls per turn.
If you successfully roll a 1, move your game piece to the Waterfall space. Then, you’ll play Waterfall as usual.
However, if, after 3 turns of rolling the die 3 times, you still fail to roll a 1, you are let out automatically, and you move spaces according to the number of the die you last rolled, starting from Waterfall.
POUR IN DRINK CUP
If you land on this space, you have to pour some of your drink into the cup in the middle of the game board.
DRINK CUP
If you land on this space, you have to drink the cup in the middle of the game board! Once you’ve downed it, fill it up with a bit of your drink to start it off again.
RED CARD/BLACK CARD
Simply draw a card. If the card is the same color as the color of the space you’re on, give out a sip or second to another player. But if the card is a different color, you have to take a sip or second.
BOOZE YOUR TURN
This space is a play on words. You lose your next turn and take a sip or second as punishment.
SOCIAL
Time for everybody to cheer and drink together! Everyone must take one sip or second.
3 MAN
If you land on this space, congratulations! You’re now the 3-man (or woman). This means you have to take a sip or second anytime someone rolls a 3 on the die. There are two ways you can stop being the 3-man:
- Someone else lands on the 3-man space on the board, or
- You yourself roll a 3.
HIGH/LOW
This game in Drink-A-Palooza is a group game! When you land on this space, you’ll start off the High/Low game by drawing a card. Then, the player on your left needs to guess whether the next card will be higher or lower in value than the previous card. Draw the next card.
If the player guessed correctly, move on to the next player.
If the player guessed incorrectly, they must take a sip or second, and then guess again.
Keep going until everyone correctly guesses, no matter how many sips or seconds it takes.
STEAL A BOTTLE
If you land on this space, lucky you! You get to steal a beer bottle from any of the other players or teams. And there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
KING’S CUP
You’ve likely played King’s Cup, also called Ring of Fire, before at a house party or college party. Well, if someone lands on this space, you’ll play one round of this classic party drinking game. One round, meaning everyone gets to draw one card before moving on.
The player who lands on this space starts the game by drawing a card. Depending on what is on the card, you’ll need to listen to the rule or play the mini game for that card value.
- Ace = Waterfall (play a round of Waterfall as detailed above)
- 2 = You (choose someone else to take a sip or second)
- 3 = Me (you must take a sip or second)
- 4 = Floor (everyone needs to point to the floor; the last person to point takes a sip or second)
- 5 = Guys (all guys drink)
- 6 = Girls (all girls drink)
- 7 = Heaven (everyone needs to point to the sky; the last person to point takes a sip or second)
- 8 = Mate (spin the bottle; whoever the bottle lands on must drink)
- 9 = Rhyme (player who draws this card says a word; the next player must say another word that rhymes; the first player to hesitate too long or cannot think of a word drinks)
- 10 = Categories (player who draws this card thinks of a category; players take turns saying something in this category, and the first player who hesitates too long or cannot think of a word drinks)
- J = Never Have I Ever (take turns saying something you’ve never done; players must take a sip or second for everything they have done that someone else hasn’t done)
- Q = Questions (player must ask a question to the player on their left; that player must immediately ask a question to the next player; and so on; whoever messes up must drink)
- K = Drink Cup (player must drink the cup in the middle)
Keep in mind the King’s Cup rules for Drink-A-Palooza are written on the game board, so don’t worry too much if these rules seem difficult to remember.
MINI GAME RULES AND WINNING BOTTLES IN DRINK-A-PALOOZA

Now, let’s go over the mini-game rules for Drink-A-Palooza. Keep in mind that these mini-games are the only way to win beer bottles (unless you manage to steal one from another player by landing on the Steal a Bottle space).
When you land on Beer Pong, Quarters, or Flip Cup, you’ve landed on a mini-game. Before you begin playing, you must spin the bottle in the middle. Whoever the bottle points to is your opponent!
BEER PONG
The first of the two players playing against each other to land the ping pong ball into the center cup wins the game and a bottle to put into their mini six-pack. The loser must drink the center cup. To play, the two players must stand around 9 feet away for the first throw. If neither manages to get the ball in, the two players step forward and try again. And again. Once the players are around 3 feet away and they still don’t manage to get the ball in the cup, it’s time to spin the bottle.
Whoever the bottle lands on wins the mini bottle, even if it’s a player not currently playing a mini-game.
QUARTERS
In this mini-game, the player who landed on the Quarters space and the second player chosen via spinning the bottle in the middle must bounce a quarter into the center cup. The first player who manages to do so successfully is the winner of the mini-game and wins a mini bottle. If you don’t want to use a dirty quarter, you can use a ping pong ball instead.
Before you begin, it might be good to determine how many rounds to play. After this number is reached, spin the bottle to determine a winner if neither of the players has won yet.
FLIP CUP
The two players race to flip their cup. First, they must drink the contents of the cup. Then, they must use their finger to flip over a cup from right side up to upside down. The first player who does this wins a mini bottle. You can decide whether this will be a 1 cup, 2 cup, or 3 cup challenge.
END OF GAME
The first player or team to fill up their six-pack with six beer bottles wins the game!
