What is Jhandi Munda?

Jhandi Munda is an Indian board game that’s played with 6 six-sided dice. This game is said to have originated in the north-east part of India. In fact, Jhandi Munda is quite popular in the north-east Indian states till date and is played in the streets by adults and kids alike.

Jhandi Munda is not just a popular game in India, though. Variations of the game are also played in Nepal and the United Kingdom. Jhandi Munda is known as “Crown and Anchor” in England and as “Langur Burja” in Nepal.

Jhandi Munda is a simple and straightforward game that is loads of fun to play and quite easy to understand. Let’s look at how the game is played.

The Jhandi Munda Board and Dice

The Jhandi Munda board is a simple tabletop board that’s divided into six parts, with six symbols drawn on each section. The six symbols are Spade, Club, Diamond, Heart, Crown, and Flag.

There are a total of 6 dice in Jhandi Munda. Each of the six-sided dice is painted with the above mentioned six symbols. There is no other equipment required in Jhandi Munda, apart from the board and the dice.

In each round of the game, the dealer throws all six dice to determine the winner while players place their bets on the section of the board that represents their chosen symbol.

Playing/Betting Process

When it comes to betting games, there is no game easier to grasp than Jhandi Munda. With such simple rules, this game of chance is literally “child’s play”.

There is only one aim for players in Jhandi Munda – Try and correctly guess the symbol that will show up most number of times as face-up when the dice is rolled.

Players place their bets on the symbol of their choice and win if their chosen symbol is the one that turns face-up most number of times when the dealer throws the dice.

For example: Player A has placed their bet on the crown symbol to show up the most when all six dice are thrown. The dealer throws the dice. Out of the six face-ups, if the crown is counted the most number of times then Player A would win. If some other symbol shows up more times than the crown, then Player A would lose.

Here is a summary of the basic set of rules that you must follow while playing a game of Jhandi Munda.

  1. Each player predicts the outcome of each roll of the dice by betting on a symbol they believe will land face-up.
  2. Whoever correctly guesses the most number of symbols wins.
  3. If the symbol you bet on doesn’t turn up, the dealer has the power to withdraw the bet you placed.
  4. At some online casinos, the dealer can also cancel all the bets from players that only got a single symbol right.

Let’s look at another example to better grasp how Jhandi Munda is played.

So, let’s say you’ve placed a bet on Club. And 3 Clubs land “face-up” on the Jhandi Munda board out of the six dice that were thrown.

In this case, you will win back your initial bet amount along with an amount three times your bet. Therefore, you win four times your bet. So if you’ve bet 100 INR, you will get 400 INR on just one Jhandi Munda dice throw. It’s an easy-to-play game for big winnings.

Hot and Cold Symbols

At its core, Jhandi Munda is a simple game of predicting odds. When the game is played online, you get the option of keeping track of hot and cold symbols. Most online casinos that offer Jhandi Munda allow players to track which symbols are appearing when, sorting them into hot and cold symbols.

Hot symbols are ones that tend to appear more while cold symbols are ones that don’t show face-up much of the time.

Keeping track of hot and cold symbols helps players predict odds more accurately and increase their chances of winning.

Jhandi Munda Variations

There are two main variations of Jhandi Munda – the original or the basic game (as explained above) and a fixed returns version of the game. Let’s learn more about both.

Traditional Jhandi Munda

Also known as “the street version” or the “progressive version”, traditional Jhandi Munda is usually the first variation of the game that any interested player would learn about.

After the dice are rolled, the person who guessed the symbol that is most prominently visible wins. The more times your favored symbol appears face-up, the more you will win. If the symbol you bet on appears three times, you will win three times your initial bet amount.

Fixed Returns Jhandi Munda

In this variation of the game, players are offered a fixed return of 3.4 times the initial bet value, regardless of the number of times the chosen symbol appears face-up.

It might seem like this version of Jhandi Munda would give better returns to players but that is simply not correct. Ultimately, both variations provide a similar kind of payout. We have to admit that you stand a better chance of winning if you play the basic version of Jhandi Munda with small bets.

Jhandi Munda Pro Tip

Playing with smaller bets is the smart choice when it comes to Jhandi Munda. Sure, small bets will get you smaller payouts but this will also make sure that you don’t incur heavy losses.
