One O Five

OBJECTIVE OF ONE O FIVE:  Be the first player to successfully build all the sets

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 or more

MATERIALS: Five 6 sided dice per player

TYPE OF GAME: Dice Game

AUDIENCE: Kids, families

INTRODUCTION OF ONE O FIVE

One O Five is a fast paced dice game that is especially enjoyable for kids.  Each player will race to build sets of their target number.  The first player to build all of the target number sets wins the game.  In order to play, you must have a set of five dice for each player.

In order to speed the game up even more, play with fewer dice per player.

THE PLAY

To decide who goes first, have each player roll all five of their dice.  The player with the highest total goes first.

Each turn, players will be trying to build a set of their target number.  To begin the game, all players start with 1 as their target number.

Player one begins the game by rolling all five dice.  Since their target number is 1, they will set aside any 1’s that they rolled.  After doing so, their turn is over.  Play passes to the next player, and they begin trying to build their set of 1’s.  If a player does not roll any of their target number, their turn is over and play passes to the next player.  For younger children, it might be more enjoyable for them to roll until they get at least one of their target number.

Once a player has finished the set of their target number, they immediately roll all five dice and begin building a set of their next target number.  For example, if a player has one die remaining and rolls their final 1, they have completed the set of 1’s.  They immediately scoop up all of the dice and roll again.  Their next target number is 2.  They keep any 2’s that they rolled, and their turn is over.

Play like this continues until a player has completed all six sets.

WINNING

The first player to complete all six sets of target numbers wins the game.
