AROUND THE SPOT

OBJECTIVE OF AROUND THE SPOT:  Be the player with the highest score at the end of the game

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 2 or more

MATERIALS: Three 6 sided dice, way to keep score

TYPE OF GAME: Dice game

AUDIENCE: Family, Kids

INTRODUCTION OF AROUND THE SPOT

Around the spot is a simple dice game that is perfect for passing the time or breaking the ice at game night.  Players will take turns rolling the dice three times in order to accrue the largest score possible.  Roll a triple 2, 4, or 6 and see your points double for the round!

THE PLAY

Each player should roll all three dice to decide who gets to go first.  Whoever rolls the highest total goes first.

Whoever goes first rolls one of the dice in order to decide how many rounds will be played.

During a player’s turn, they will roll all three dice three times.

Once player 1 and the mount of rounds has been determined, it is time to start the game.  Player 1 starts by rolling all three dice.  Points are earned as follows:

RollPoints
11 Point
32 Points
54 Points
2,4,60 Points

If a player rolls three 2’s, 4’s, or 6’s, their score will be doubled for the round.  That player also earned an extra roll.

If a player rolls a second set of three 2’s, 4’s, or 6’s, their score is no longer doubled.

If a player then rolls a third set of three 2’s, 4’s, or 6’s, they earn the double score again and an extra roll.  This particular pattern will continue until a player’s turn ends.

Once a player completes their final roll, their turn is over.  Their score is tallied, and the dice are passed to the next player.

Play like this continues until the determined numbers of rounds have been played.

EXAMPLE TURN

Player begins their turn by rolling all three dice.  They roll 2-5-3.  At this point, their score is 8.  They take their second roll and get 4-4-4.  Since they rolled a triple 4, their total score at the end of the round will be doubled, and they get an extra roll.  On their next roll, they get a 1-1-6.  They earned 2 points for that roll which brings their regular score to 10.  Finally, they take their bonus roll and get 3-1-2 bringing their regular score to 14.  Player 1 also gets to double their points since they rolled the triple 4.  This means they earned 28 points this round.  The dice are passed to player 2.

Player 2 rolls and gets 6-6-6.  Since they rolled this, their score may be doubled this round, and they get an extra roll.  They take their second roll and get 5-5-5 giving them 15 points (possibly 30) for the round so far.  They take their third roll and get 2-2-2.  Rolling another triple even number cancels out their double opportunity.  Player 2 still gets to take their bonus roll.  They get a 1-1-1 bringing their score to 18.  They do not get to double their score.

WINNING

The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
