INTRODUCTION OF LOONEY LIGHTS
Looney Lights is inspired by the classic Crazy Eights, but it is played with components from the Christmas Lights card game. Players are trying to get rid of all the cards from their hand by matching the colored bulb on top of the discard pile. Bubble bulbs, plugs, and broken bulbs all have special powers that help players get rid of their cards faster. The first person to get rid of all cards wins.
THE CARDS & THE DEAL
Shuffle the 42 colored bulbs, 6 bubble bulbs, 8 plugs, and 5 broken bulbs together to form a 61 card deck.
The deal depends on the number of players. For a 2 player game, deal 7 cards. 3 – 4 players are dealt 5 cards each. In a 5 – 6 player game, deal 4 cards to each player.
The rest of the cards are placed face down as a draw pile. Turn the top card over to begin the discard pile.
THE PLAY
Player’s play one card from their hand to the discard pile each turn. To do so, the card played must match the bulb color of the top card on the discard pile. If the player does not have a bulb card that is an exact match, they may play a special card. If the player does not have any special cards to play, they must draw until they get a card that can be played.
SPECIAL CARDS
Bubble bulbs are wild. They may be played on top of any card. When a bubble bulb is played, that player chooses a new color. That is the color the next player must match.
Plugs can be played on top of any color bulb. When played, the plug becomes the same color as the bulb it was played upon. Play then continues with this color.
Broken bulbs can be played on any color as well. When a player places a broken bulb on top of the discard pile, they immediately play another colored bulb from their hand.
CONTINUING THE ROUND
Play continues as described until one person plays their final card to the discard pile.
WINNING
The person that plays their final card to the discard pile first wins the game.
