INTRODUCTION TO MANILA
Manila or Seven Up Poker is a variant on Texas Hold ‘Em. This is a popular variant in Australian Casinos and is unique because of its stripped deck. Manila is played with a standard 52 card deck with all cards below 7s removed for a total of 32 cards. Like most poker games, players try to win the pot by placing bets, bluffing, and having the best five-card hand.
THE DEAL
Prior to the deal, the blinds must be put out. The player to the left of the dealer places the small blind and the player to their left places the big blind. After, the dealer passes each player two cards face-down and one card face-up. The single card is dealt to the center of the table.
Like Hold’Em, Manila is a community card game. However, players try and make the best 5 card hand with their two hole cards and three community cards (out of five).
THE PLAY
The game consists of 5 betting rounds. Between each round of betting, the dealer deals a new community card to the table. At the end of the betting rounds, players use their two hole cards and 3 of 5 community cards in the showdown. Since the game utilizes a stripped deck, flushes beat full houses. Also, aces cannot be used as low cards in a straight. The player with the best five card hand wins the pot!
