THE SET-UP OF BLIND SQUIRREL

The Blind Squirrel is a drinking game which uses both cards and dice. Drinks are distributed based upon a players ability to guess what card will be drawn and how the dice will roll.

To play Blind Squirrel one needs: beer, hard liquor, 54 card deck (52 cards + jokers), dice, and the ability to hold your liquor as well as shotgun a beer alone without shame.

Have all active players gather around a table with the cards and dice. The alcohol should be within arm’s length.

THE PLAY

The game begins with the dealer, after shuffling the deck, dealing the top card to the table, face-up. Next, the dealer asks the player to their right:

  • If the next card will be higher or lower than the first card or
  • the exact next card that will be shown. For example, if the first card is a 6, the guesser may say the next card will be “high king.” This indicates the next card played will be higher than the 6 and will be a King, to be exact.

Once a guess is made the dealer reveals the next card. If the guesser is wrong (when guessing either higher or lower) they drink but it remains their turn. But, if the guesser is correct they become the dealer. However, if they incorrectly guess the exact card, they must take sips from their drink equal to the difference in value from the card guessed and the card shown.

The turn to guess passes around the table.

Ties

If the card revealed is equal in rank to the first card, and the guesser was incorrect, the guesser must take a shot. But, if they are right, all other active players take a shot.

The Joker

In a 54 card deck, two of those cards are jokers. If the second cards is a joker and the guesser did not guess it, the guesser rolls the dice twice. The sum of the two rolls is the number of sips the guesser must drink.

But, if the guesser correctly named the joker as the next card, they still roll. However, all other players must take the total number of sips between the two rolls.

If the second joker appears without being guessed, the guesser must shotgun a beer alone. However, if the guesser is correct about the coming of the second joker all other players shotgun a beer one at a time so that each player shotguns a beer alone.

After the second joker is pulled or the deck is exhausted the game ends.
