OVERVIEW OF STEAL THE BACON

Steal the Bacon is a fun outdoor game that allows the kids to get outside and run around with little to no planning on your part! All you need is a bean bag or a ball to act as the “bacon” that they will steal. With plenty of running, planning, and activity, this game is perfect for wearing the kids out before they come in for the day! This game can easily be altered to be appropriate for any age group.

SETUP

To setup the game, simply determine where the boundaries are for the game, including the out of bounds and the goal lines. Each team should then be decided, with an even number of players on both teams. The “bacon” is then placed in between both teams. The game is then ready to begin.

GAMEPLAY

To play the game, each player will be given a number. There should be one person on each team with the same number. When the adult calls out the number, the two team members will step forward, one from each team. These players will try to steal the bacon as fast as possible.

Once a player gets the bacon, they should try to reach their goal line without being tagged by the other player. If they get tagged, then the other team scores a point, but if they get the bacon across their line, then they win a point. If the player with the bacon runs out of bounds, then the other team wins a point.

For older kids, this game can be altered so that they are able to practice their math skills. For example, instead of saying “three” the adult may say “the player with a number equal to six divided by two.” This allows for some educational experiences within the game!

END OF GAME

The game comes to an end once one team has earned 10 points. The first team to do so, wins the game.
